At The Butterfly Farm in St. Martin the caretakers place chrysalises in special boxes so that the butterflies are protected when they first emerge. They crawl out, open their wet wings slowly, and wait while the wings straighten and dry. After a short time the butterflies are ready to fly freely around the garden. I thought about the butterfly farm and these photos as I sat with a psychotherapy client here in Austin describing her own beautiful process of change. Therapy can provide a shelter for clients as they go through a sometimes difficult process that leads to more freedom in their lives.
