By being open and curious about all of our feelings and thoughts, and exploring them with others, we get over the fear of self-knowledge. With group psychotherapy, we can reclaim the joy of being our authentic selves and celebrate the characteristics that make us unique. Practicing emotional intimacy in the safety of the group gives us the courage to connect deeply with others in a way that breaks through isolation.
Why group psychotherapy?
Process oriented groups
Group provides connection, support, education and mirrors to the self.
In process-oriented group therapy you will talk about your life, your relationships, your emotions, your frustrations and your desires. You also talk about what you are feeling and experiencing within yourself and toward others in the group as these feelings and thoughts arise. By being open and curious about all of our feelings and thoughts, and exploring them out loud with others, we get over the fear of self-knowledge. With the help of the group we can reclaim the joy of being who we are and can celebrate the characteristics that make us unique. The benefits of knowing and accepting ourselves include self-confidence, self-love, strength and wisdom. We often find ourselves more accepting of others as well and therefore able to have richer and more rewarding relationships.
Psychoeducational group therapy can help clients develop healthy coping skills for managing specific challenges. Skills might include interpersonal relationships, parenting, partnering, self- care, emotion management, relaxation techniques, and coping with depression. A combination of leader-taught skills and the sharing of common experiences facilitate learning and growth in a supportive setting.
Creative therapy groups
Creative therapies give us another way to access our deeper thoughts and feelings. Adults often lose connection with their creativity and sense of play and can regain these parts of themselves in a creative group. Drawing, free-writing, collage, and journalling are techniques we explore in group.
